Armed with a bit of knowledge about what Twitter is all about, share your thoughts on this fast growing online phenomenon.

Twitter - seems... very silly. The short textual bursts of conversation are hard to follow, I think it may be more useful to 'famous people' movie starts, authors, musicians - and the people who wish to be on top of the newest book, movie, or trend - like a constantly updating 'Hello' or 'People' magazine.

I can see it being useful for businesses with new products etc. It seems like one giant advertisement. "We have this...", "New in...", "On sale..."

On a personal level... not everyone needs to know that you just washed your car...

Do you see any practical applications for LibraryThing either at home or at work? Will you start using this site?

Practical application - when you look up books there is a recommend section, this might be another useful resource to suggest to customers that are have a hard time deciding what to read next. I also like that it will show you alternate covers that the title has had - though, I can't seem to find where is says the alternate covers are from, because unless you recognize the language you don't know.

I probably won't use it myself.

Online Productivity Tools

Do you see free online tools like these eventually replacing expensive software like MS Office?

I think that there is definately a possibility to these tools replacing MS Office products. The ease of not having to worry about USB's and saving devices - just having your documents avaiable whenever you accesess the web is very appealing. The library should have a partnership with Google so we can shamelessly promote it to customers.

Now to investigate the calendar....

YouTube & Flickr

I like them both! You can find a lot of interesting photos on Flickr if you're browsing or if you're looking for something specific and the person who has uploaded it was handy in their 'tagging' skills. YouTube is great for the vast variety of everything it covers - how-to tutorials (I learned to wrap a sari), events (that you missed or want to watch again), creative projects, music videos - there's just so much out there!

Were you able to successfully set up your RSS feed?

Yep! I was successful setting up a RSS feed. This was and interesting one to learn about - I knew of it but have never explored it as an option. I can see how this could be set up as a nice easy information gathering one-stop-spot!

What do you like about the Google product? What do you dislike? Would you recommend the product to friends and colleagues?

I love Google Maps, and Street View.

  • It's pretty user friendly with nice features that give you the option of finding out what is close by.
  • It's great for not only directions, but seeing what kind of landmarks are around an area.
  • It's also good for scoping out realistate if you're in the market and want to check out the neighbourhood.

I would definately recommend it.
